Blue Whales

Went out to watch blue whales in Päivi's day cruiser..because of the cold weather somehow they have gathered in large, previously unseen,  numbers here right outside Santa Monica/Redondo Beach area.

Captain Donny steering the 65 000 pound/30 000 kilo, 2 engine yacht..

Before we even got out of the marina we ran into these guys

This is the first whale we spotted, we pretty much cruised straight into him an no other boats were around. We got super close and  the feeling was indescribable. For a while I was afraid he was gonna go under our boat and flip it over...
This one is harder to see but he is spraying water and you can see the huge body all along the surface. This is the world's largest animal, it can weigh up to almost 200 tons and be up to 33 meters long.
I still can't believe we got this close...and here! Right outside where I live!
To say the least we were pretty excited about our day!
At the end of the day I made sure all the engines were fine.
