A view from the hike along the Na Pali Coast. You can hike this for days to get the best views. But we did the 2 mile hike, 4 miles total. We planned on hiking up another 2 miles to a waterfall, but it had rained heavy during the night and the hike was muddy. We had to cross the stream below which was unusually strong because of the rain.
Opaekaa Falls...top from a distance...and the bottom up close.
A very steep hike along ropes took us down there, and it was mighty...
This is the amazing Queens bath. A tide pool in the lava rocks that wasn't too easy to swim in because of the incoming waves. Swimming there is only safe at low tide and when the surf isnt too violent. When we were there the first time we could even snorkel and there were plenty of fish in the pool.
One of our beach bbq:s. We brought all our stuff down to this fire pit we found and bbq'd meat and lobster...Surf and Turf in other words.
Do you see the whale jumping out of the water? So close to the beach! We saw so many whales during our trip. Just as exciting each time! This one was right in front of our bbq.
Our perfect little grill that we brought with us from Oahu where we bought it as a one-time-use grill.
Cooper turned the bbq into a bonfire later on, and we watched millions of stars.
Many of the houses in Kauai are built like these! We never figured out if it is to get a better view or the fear of flooding and tornados...
One day we drove as far upp on the west side as you can before the road ends and the Na Pali Mountains take over. It was beautiful up there and you got a little glimps of Na Pali beauty.
Up there we also swam at this little lagoon. A nice swimming pool protected by a reef. Perfect!
This is Hawaii's Grand Canyon as they call it. Waimea Canyon.
Absolutely marvelous and stunning. We drove a road leading us further into the canyon and got views o the ocean as well.
This is Spouting Horn on the southern tip of the island. A small lava shelf where water from waves is thrust through an opening. Making a violent, pretty scary noise.
Sand stone cliffs on the south coast.
We totally fell in love with something called apple bananas. Smaller and not so mushy. Too bad you cant find them here.
Also, Rambutans became a favorite..
Just green green green everywhere in Kauai....
The view from our "Orchid Room".
Another meal by Cooper, Ahi poki, fresh avocado and shrimp quesadilla.
This is the beach where Clooney jogged in the Descendants. It's Hanalei Bay.
And then, the house on the beach in which several scenes were filmed. They had put up a sign to please respect their privacy. Can only imagine that more people than us tried to find that house..
This little hole in the wall became a favorite place to get Mexican food.
It's name used to be something else, but all the locals kept calling it Da Crack. So they simply changed the name to that.
One of those great rainbows. This one is over the best snorkeling beach Tunnels on the north shore.
In a little town called Hanapepe, on the south shore, we found this old lovely café. From the start back in the 1800's it had been a pharmacy and lemonade bar.
The old counter and stools were the same. So amazing.
This is actually from Oahu, just such a cool pic with the turtle and me on the beach...looking for his head to pop up.
Good Job!
